About NoJEF

The Norwich Jubilee Esperanto Foundation is an organisation registered with the Charity Commission with the number 313190.

It was formed in May 1967 with the aim of promoting the study and practice of the international language Esperanto by awarding scholarships to young people to attend Esperanto events and issuing grants to people conducting Esperanto-related research.

NoJEF was the brainchild of an Alderman of Norwich, Edwin Dean, who had promised to donate £1000 over a seven-year period to facilitate young people’s attendance at Esperanto events.  In all, he actually gave £4000, over £30,000 in today’s money.

The Charity takes its name from the fact that its inception occurred at the time of the fiftieth (so, jubilee) British Esperanto Congress, which took place in Norwich. It accords grants that cover voyage and accommodation costs, and joining fees to various Esperanto events, all over the world.

People wishing to make a request or submit a query should contact the Secretary, Tim Owen, on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . If the request is for a travel grant then, of course, it should be made in Esperanto.
